Hi
I have bought some new dresses cypress pine and would like to know if I can just paint some stain onto the wood or do I need to do some prep work.
the wood is smooth but I think it’s oily….
Hi @grousefx,
Thank you for your question and welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fabulous to have you with us.
Before staining any timber, it is a good idea to give it sand. This will remove any surface contaminants that can affect the consistency of the stain's colour.
I'd suggest giving it a once-over with 120 grit sandpaper to remove any surface oils or contaminants picked up during the milling process. You can hand sand the timber or if you have a lot to do, you can use a random orbital sander to speed up the process.
Once sanded, brush your timber down to remove any sawdust before staining.

Let me know if you have any further questions.
