How to install stair stringers?
Hi
We need to add outdoor stairs to an external deck. We have purchased the Galintel 7 tread stringers from our local bunnings. What is the best way to attach them to our deck?
Our deck width is 2330mm and from ground to landing is 1380mm.
We also need to attach rails (any budget friendly suggestions) and was thinking of using the H3 treated pine stair tread 240 x 45mm x 1500mm. Can we do the 1500mm wide treads if the set the stringers at 1m width, with a 250mm over hang on each side of the stringer?

Re: installing stair stringers
Hi @handiher19,
The stringers will need to be attached to the frame timber of your deck. Ensure it is attached so the last step up onto the deck is a consistent height with the other rises. Predrill the deck frame and install galvanised bolts through the stair tread top brackets and into the frame, locking them in position with washers and nuts from the rear. Here's the installation guide.
A one-metre span between your stringer would be suitable for 45mm thick treads. A budget and functional handrail system could be constructed from treated Pine framing timbers. However, you might like to add a profiled handrail to improve the look.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
