Hi all
i have a broken drainage pipe and wanting to replace it. How do I add a new drainage pipe ontop of the current one ?
Hi @andiie21,
Thank you for your question about capping off a broken drainage pipe.
You'll have to start by cutting the pipe to remove the jagged edges. Start by marking a level line around the pipe in line with the lowest broken point.
You can then use a handsaw to cut along this line. This will give you a flat, relatively square top to the pipe.
Clean up the pipe and remove any burrs around the rim with a bit of sandpaper. You'll want the pipe to be free from dirt, grass and plastic burrs which can affect the strength of the glue.
Once it has been tidied up, apply Red Priming Fluid to the outside of the pipe and the inside of the cap.
After applying the primer, do the same with Type N Blue Cement Solvent.
Once both surfaces have primer and solvent on them push them together and rotate the cap 90 degrees to create suction between the two masses of solvent.
This will stick the two pieces together exactly how a plumber would do it.
Let me know if you have any further questions.

Thanks for the quick reply Jacob . Do you know what type of pipe I need to get ? The diameter is about 10.5cm
Hi @andiie21,
Apologies, I thought you still had the cap.
If that's not the case, you can use a Holman 100mm PVC DWV Bolted Trap Screw to replace the old one.

Hi Jacob sorry I read my post and forgot to mention I want to extend the pipe abit longer. What would I need to extend the pipe
Hi @andiie21,
In that case, you'll need to grab a 100mm Slip Coupling and a length of 100mm PVC Pipe.
After cutting the jagged pipe and cleaning it up, use the primer and solvent to glue the slip coupling to the existing pipe. You can then cut the 100mm PVC pipe to the desired height and glue it into the coupling.
Following this, attach the 100mm PVC Bolted Trap Screw to the top of the extended pipe.
Let me know what you think.
