how do i stop hose conector popping off

How do I stop a hose connector popping off when I turn the hose on. I know that this is probably due to high pressure but unfortunately even with the tap on a lower level that still disconnects and pops off. I have one of the hose connectors that you push on and you can pull off easy enough and it is pretty new Like possibly only about a month old .

Re: how do i stop hose conector popping off

Good Evening @azimm1775

 Yep, know how you feel as ive been "babying" my front hose socket for the past 3 weeks for the same reason.

The hose was old, the connector wasnt the best but looked new. The bit connected to the tap is old...

I had a spare hose socket so put that on, and the hose would still pop off (unless I held the slipring up when turning on the tap lol )

Have I replaced the tap connector... Nope but I know that that is the issue, its worn and the three little connocter tabs dont lock onto it. Now you have reminded me take a guess where I am off tomorrow  Yeah will buy a new hose connector and another slip ring connector to keep in case

So the question for you, is the tap connector old? Possibly worth replacing and also your end of hose could have also failed (Australian sun hammers plastic)

Whoops  Welcome to the community! Yeah we all have had issues with hoses and the hose sprayers (how many times have we been soaked as it pops off) lol Take a wander through the pages in here  So many stories and projects you may just get distracted....

Re: how do i stop hose conector popping off

Hi @azimm1775

There are a few common causes for this.

1. Poor quality fittings.  Despite all looking essentially the same there can be slight variances in quality control in the cheaper ones. Mid to higher price fitting will connect more securely between brands. Sticking to same brand fittings will invariably guarantee a secure fitment.

2. Metal to Plastic Fittings. Even with high quality fittings, mixed materials can cause issues though rare.

3. Missing/damaged o-ring. The male fitting should have a rubber o-ring in placer. If its missing or broken this can cause issues

Re: how do i stop hose conector popping off

Hi @azimm1775,

A warm welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community and thank you for your question.

As @Dave-1 and @Nailbag have said, you might need to replace the hose connectors with new, higher-quality connectors.

This Holman 12mm Brass Hose Connector Set contains high-quality connectors that should cover all bases.

Let me know what you think and if you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

These are great connectors, which I use on all 8 of my Orbit B-hive tap timers and pressure washer hose reels 👍
