I ve watched Bunnings low level deck videos which uses 2x 90 x45 joined together for bearer , is that required ?

see below diagram for dimensions and deck board direction

I’ve read span tables but wanted confirmation …

Re: decking frame - spans for bearers and joists - 90 x 45

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @DaveC. It's sensational to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about building a deck.

You might also like to check out this guide: How to build a low-level deck.

Using 90 x 45mm for joists is certaining an option and typically they should be supported every 1000-1200mm by posts. There's no need to double them up for a span of this distance. However, if you wished them to span further, then that is an option, or you could increase them to 140 x 45mm.

Since this is quite a large deck, it would be best to confirm with your local council as to whether building approval is required.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
