Re: outdoor bbq area

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @TravisB. It's brilliant to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about Specrite panels.

Specrite panels can be used in protected outdoor areas. They must be sealed appropriately and must be sheltered from rain.

Regarding whether they can be used around a BBQ, it would be similar to any other timber where it must be isolated from heat. You couldn't have the BBQ sitting on top of it as that would be a fire risk. Materials such as compressed fibro would be a better heat-resistant choice.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Re: outdoor bbq area

Thanks for your advice. What would be the best product to seal the bench top given it would be in a bbq area?

Re: outdoor bbq area

Hello @TravisB

I propose looking at timber furniture sealers as these have UV inhibitors that protect it from the rays of the sun. Generally, I would suggest a benchtop sealer, but because it's being used outside it is better to use a product that can withstand outdoor weather. For example, the Cabot's 500ml Matt Water Based Exterior Clear, it is a fast drying, easy to use, durable varnish designed to save you time with a 4 hour recoat. It provides protection without hiding the grain, the low odour, non-yellowing formula contains UV absorber technology, making it ideal for use on exterior doors, windows and trim.

But there are other brands that come with a stain and sealer combination. I recommend visiting your local store and having a look at the furniture stain and sealer sample board and see which one you like.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Eric
