Hi Guys,
I'm looking at building a gate out of 2.4mm thick steel, and fixing 19mm and 40mm merbau battens.
Could you please provide a link to the best screws to use to fix the battens to the steel frame.
Thanks,
Lee
Hi Lee (@Lee777),
Thank you for your question.
Are you using steel SHS (square hollow section) like this 40 x 40 Square Hollow Section? If so, what dimensions is the steel?
Regardless of the size, you'll want to use a galvanised countersunk metal screw, but due to the different sizes of timber, you may need to use two different lengths.
These 10G x 65mm Galvanised Countersunk Head Metal Screws will work for both sizes if your steel is 40x40, but if it is smaller, you might also need some 40mm Galvanised Countersunk Head Metal Screws for the smaller battens.
Let me know what you think and if you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
Jacob
Thanks mate,
I’ll be using 50x50x2.5 RHS
Hi @Lee777,
In that case, the 65mm screws will work fine.
Let me know if you need any assistance along the way.
