Re: DIY outdoor spray for wasps etc?
Hello @fi63
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us and thanks for sharing your question about keeping wasps away.
For a DIY wasp repellent spray that you can use around outdoor eaves, fences, and other areas where wasps like to build nests, a good option is a mix of clove oil, peppermint oil, and dish soap. Wasps hate strong essential oils, and this combination works as a natural deterrent.
DIY Wasp Repellent Spray:
- 500ml water
- 10-15 drops peppermint oil
- 10-15 drops clove oil
- A few drops of dish soap (helps the spray stick)
- Optional: Add a splash of white vinegar for extra deterrence
Mix everything in a spray bottle and shake well. Spray it around eaves, under gutters, on fences, and any sheltered spots where wasps like to nest. Repeat weekly or after rain.
If you need something stronger, Yates 350g Home Pest Blitzem! Wasp Killer & Nest Destroyer (special order) from Bunnings is a good chemical option that lasts longer and helps stop them from returning. Also, keeping the area free of food scraps and sealing up small gaps in eaves can help prevent them from nesting.
If you need further assistance, please let us know.
Eric
