I'm a huge fan of Tiny Houses, & this YouTube vid shows what can be achieved through resourcefulness & commitment:

NZ$26000 in this day & age for such a charming home, is a showcase of the benefits of shying away from consumerism.

I've never seen a Tiny House vid where to owners are passe', they're proud, & beam with delight that they have a comfortable home, that is affordable, memorable through sweat equity, & the rewards of freeing themselves from the shackles of life suffocating mortgages.

@Andy_Mann - I like the idea in theory but I don't think this one is a great example. The downstairs area is a pretty great use of space but upstairs just looked far too cramped for my liking. 

I also doubt those stairs would pass a building inspection.

@Jackson, agree about lofts, I'm not a fan, but the young don't seem to mind them.

I've seen some design savvy Tiny House builds, that have a slightly raised floor, & what looks like a sofa, but when needed, it can be slid out fully, & it becomes a full sized bed. Brilliant design & an elegant solution.

About building codes, I think they come under the mobile home/caravan category, so they aren't as strict.

They're becoming popular with the young who can't afford land, so they build on their parents' block, which seems to work well.

Basically, Seattle has a tiny house village that homeless people can use to sleep, eat and shower. It only costs them $90 a month to cover utilities, and is having great success in helping people to get back on their feet. Love to see something like this in Australia.

I was once looking at building a shipping container home, but I discovered that the local council would not allow them in the area I was looking at.!!
It seems that South Australia is way behind the times when it comes to alternative accommodation..

That homeless accommodation idea is brilliant!
Pity there aren't more enlightened politicians around..
