Restoring Teak outdoor chairs

We had a set of teak chairs over 10 years old that needed some repairs. Teak is a beautiful wood that can last ages, but the chairs were left in the elements and mildew was growing on the surface. We started with cleaning the chairs by using a pressure washer, this removed most of the mildew and dirt but at the same time, it also roughed up the surface. To smooth it out, we sanded the surface with 80-grit followed by 220-grit sandpaper. There was also a final sanding by hand to get it ready for oiling. We then applied 2 light coats of Feast Watson Outdoor Furniture Oil, which gives the teak wood a warm golden brown color. Took about a day to do and happy to have our chairs back:-)

Thank you for sharing the photos and details of your restoration project. Those chairs look so good freshly oiled. I suspect that if you had waited another season it would have been more difficult to re-stain them. How long did you let the chairs dry out before using them? Is there a matching table that goes with it?

May I also commend you on your healthy lawn as well, I can imagine it would take quite a bit of care to achieve.

Hi @EricL , thanks for msg. Sadly we don't have a table but we do have a park bench to restore. The oil itself was completely dry after 48hrs. The first coat went on very easily as the teak just soaked it up. All the best:-)
