I am going to build a new timber picket fence 14m long, I have looked at the tutorials and need to understand what size Posts and rails I need to purchase to build the picket fence being 1.2m high, plus I would expect that the fence would need two rails. Also how far does the post need to be in the ground prior to concreting?
Welcome to the Workshop community @BrianEvans. I'd be happy to answer your question.
The posts can be constructed from 90 x 90mm 2.4m F7 KD H4 Treated Pine Premium and would be suitable for a 1.2m high fence. The rails can be constructed from 90 x 35mm H3 MGP 10 Treated Pine Outdoor Timber Framing.
The hole should be dug to 50cm in-depth and the width should be double that of the post. Please note 50mm of gravel base should be added to the holes first before concreting the post in.
If you need further advice or had other questions, please let me know.
