Hi,
We have a pool fence that we would like to make less "bland" and were thinking about some white slim line raised planter boxes in front. We were thinking about building some long slim type eg around the width of the colorbond panel 2.4m (L) x 350mm (w) x 600mm (h) that done take up much width. I have noticed that there is a the merbau planters on here : https://www.workshop.bunnings.com.au/t5/Outdoor/Merbau-planter-boxes-and-vertical-vegie-garden/td-p/... but wondering if that build would be cost a lot using that timber and be ok with next to a pool?. Open to suggestions here or some helpwith building some planters with any type of timber really.
Cheers!
Hi @Sn0wy
I found some Merbau Decking
That was costing out at $6.60 per metre is the most cost effective price range.
So a timber quick estimate for merbau decking is (2.4M x 14)+ (0.35 x14) = 39M decking X $6.60 = $254
$254 + h4 frame +plastic liner etc So one 2.4 x 350mm planter cost loose estimate $300ea.
Save some more cost using treated pine H4 as frame work inside the box and for the planter floor if you want a floor,
You will need to seal the timber inside and out to stop possible timber stain comomg out and water stain on the timber ie pool chmicals.
Hope this helpsa bit.
Hi @Sn0wy,
It's great to see you've already received a helpful response from @Jewelleryrescue. The suggested timber would be suitable for around a pool, you'll just need to do the standard maintenance of oiling yearly.
It might be worth considering pre-fab planters such as the Northcote Pottery 80cm White Terrazzo Look Precinct Lite Trough or Northcote Pottery 100cm White Emmerson Trough, as they would work out to be in a similar price range. Perhaps you could even do a combination with 2.4m of Merbau seating and then a couple of planter boxes. That would give you some greenery and then a seating area. Following this project on training climbers to screen a fence would be great too.
