How to replace rotting window sill?

Window sill is halfway rotted and I want to replace the rotting timber. I’d like to know which timber would be suitable for the job or do I need special order.

Rough estimate 1850x45x35mm

thanks

Re: Window sill rot replacement

Hello @handynoob

Would you happen to know if the timber at the front is all soft or are parts of it still hard? The reason for this is that it might still be possible to repair the damage. If for example that the damage is not that bad and that over 90 percent of the window frame is still intact, then you can use Earl's 250ml Wood Hardener in combination with Turbo 175ml Builders Bog Flexipack. But if it has rotted all the way through your only choice will be to replace the window frame.

I recommend placing your tape measure over your frame and taking a photo of all the dimensions of your window frame. Bring it to the trade desk and speak to one of the team members to see if they can identify the timber profile that was used for your window. In this particular instance, I suggest engaging the services of a registered builder. They will be able to remove and re-install your window in compliance with the local building codes. Plus, the installation will be covered by the builder's warranty.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Eric
