Re: replacing my bricked in letter box

Good Evening @rhys1

Ugh 😕 Feel your pain. I was trying to figure a way around or see if you can possibly buy a new front panel. I didnt find anything that I felt suited. Until I came across this Bunnings thread from 2022  By @faisal-s

On How to fix or replace back cover for letterbox?

Now I know this is the rear door of a letterbox but it may help you as a starting point.

Will tag a couple of other members including @Noyade who may remember the thread? Plus @Nailbag and @JoeAzza

Re: replacing my bricked in letter box

Hello @rhys1

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your letter box.

There are a number of letter box fronts that might work with the space of your brick letter box. The Sandleford 203 - 500mm Brick In Letterbox Sleeve is the default body of most of the Sandleford brick in letter box sets. The fronts although bigger in the front are actually clipped to the letterbox sleeve. A good example is the Sandleford Black Chalice Brick Insert Letterbox. But please remember to double check the measurements just to make sure it fits.

Here is a handy step-by-step guide: How to install a Brick In Letterbox.

This guide will give you a better idea of how the Sandleford sets might fit into the space that you have. My only other suggestion is to make your own front out of timber, I propose using Merbau as it is robust enough to survive harsh weather.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Eric

Re: replacing my bricked in letter box

G'day @rhys1

To my eyes it looks like the front was 'pressed' into the mortar - hence easy for the vandal/s to remove?

My thought was welded steel plate leaving an opening for letters and small parcels. A lot of openings these days are too small for the modern World (eBay/Amazon).

And make it large so that the anchoring points are well away from the opening and covering the damaged mortar. Silicone at the top and paint.

Just a post coffee thought. Either way, I hope you get it sorted.

Cheers.

1. The width of the post is 480mm

2. The height from the top of the letter box hole to the bottom of the letter box hole is 165mm

3. The inside brick to brick is 260mm

4. From the bottom of the letter box hole down is 110mm (not sure if you need that measurement but I've added it)

Hope that helps.

If you need any more info let me know thx again.

Hi @rhys1,

Allow me to tag @Noyade so he is notified of the added details.

I have removed your address from your post and sent it to Noyade privately.

If you'd like to share private details, I would suggest doing it via private message moving forward.
