Hi there,

we removed some of the covering layer of the outdoor timber cladding when using a pressured water hose.
Would you be able to guide me to the type of product to use to cover the small part so it matches the rest? See photo attached

thanks!

Re: product for external timber cladding

Hello @totocol

Is there any chance you kept the piece that got taken off when you were using your pressure sprayer? The traditional repair procedure for this is to usually glue the broken piece back. However, if that piece is gone your next step is to try and paint match the colour of your timber cladding. From the picture, it looks like charcoal or ashwood in colour. To get a very accurate match you'll need to chip off a bit of the cladding for the paint specialist at the store to do a paint match.

Once you have the sample pot you can test it on the damaged section. I suggest purchasing a small cup of black tint so that you can adjust the darkness of the paint if the original formula is too light. I'm afraid your only other option is to remove that bottom rail and replace it with a similar one.

Let me tag our experienced members @tom_builds, @JDE and @Noyade for their recommendations.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Thanks @EricL

so is that usually just normal paint instead of a lacquer or some type of oil?

Re: product for external timber cladding

Hi @totocol

You could use oil but there's no telling if the material your using it on will behave the same way as regular timber. Plus it's much harder to match oil stains. Once you find the right colour, I suggest using British Paints 4 Seasons. Have it tinted to the colour of your sample pot. British Paints is made for exterior use and will withstand harsh weather.

Hi @EricL

thanks for the suggestions. I tried to peel off some of the paint but it didn’t seem like I could peel anything off. It rather seems more like a dark oil stain. See photos attached

is that a colour I can get matched some how at Bunnings using oil and some colour?

thanks

Re: product for external timber cladding

Hi @totocol,

I'd agree that it appears to be a stain rather than a painted coating. If you take these images into your local store, a helpful team member at their paint desk will check to see what options are available for them to mix up. It's likely going to be a charcoal grey colour and a few coats to hit that level of darkness. Cabot's exterior stain can be tinted to a number of different colours, and it's probably the best option. Remember to do a small test section to ensure you are happy with the colour before committing to the whole area.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
