How to repair a deep scratch in a concrete table top?

I collected this concrete table over the weekend and in the course of unloading from the van, scratched the surface. Any ideas on how I can repair it? Its about 60cm long.Table.jpg

Hello @Phil_Y

A quick way to disguise the scratch is to use a Boyle Size 4 Craft Taklon Round Brush in combination with a paint sample pot in the colour of the benchtop. I suggest getting a dark grey colour rather than a black one as it will stand out. The process is to get your brush and dip it into the paint and carefully add dots over the damaged section of the concrete top. If done correctly you should be able to hide the scratch and get it to blend in with the rest of the table.

Please note that this is not a permanent fix, the occasional touch up might be required as the paint fades away.

Hi Eric

Yes that would be a good solution I was also reading that using a sealer such as Crommelin and resealing the entire table top with 2 coats would also help. What are your thoughts on that?

Re: How to repair a deep scratch in a concrete table top

Hello @Phil_Y

It is difficult to tell how long the sealer will stick to your concrete top. The reason is that the concrete top has a paint feature on its surface. This will prevent the sealer form being absorbed by the concrete top and will technically just be sitting on its surface. The sealer will not have a solid grip on the surface and as soon as the surface feature cracks or fail it will take the sealer with it.

Eric

I have been having a closer look at the topped I believe it is not concrete but a construction of ceramic tiles.

Have a look.

Re: How to repair a deep scratch in a concrete table top

Hi @Phil_Y

Excellent spotting! If it is ceramic tiles, I suggest rubbing the surface with soap and water to dull the surface scratch. If after drying the surface the scratch is still prominent, I suggest using a candle stick and running it over the scratched area. The wax from the candle stick will cover the scratched surface and reduce its prominence.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.
