We had an incident with an ashtray that caught fire and left a burnt mark on our deck. How can I replace this to its original state.

Hello @David12
Thanks for sharing your question about repairing your burnt decking board. That damage looks a bit deep and I'm not sure sanding the surface will be enough to fix it. I suggest giving it a go and see how much damage has occurred. If you manage to remove all the burn damage and the decking panel is still relatively intact, I propose using Builders Bog to fill the damaged spot. It can be sanded and painted over.
Please note that the new repair spot will be visible because of the new coating, and it will not blend in with your old decking paint. The only way to get a uniform finish is to sand your entire deck and put on a new coat of paint over it.
However, if the panel is compromised and poses a danger, I suggest removing it and replacing it with a new decking panel. In regards to the paint, I suggest getting a sample piece off your deck and bringing it to the store for colour matching. Please make sure to mention that it is from your deck so that paint specialist will get the appropriate paint for you.

Hi @David12
That’s fairly decent burn to try and sand out. So I would skip that and follow @EricL advice to cut it out and fill it with builders bog. Before it’s sets fully hard, use a scraper to take any surface layer off which will reduce the sanding.
Correct me if I’m wrong but the deck colour appears to be painted not an oil. If this is the case then painting over the fill area will not be noticed.
