Need to remove varnish from slate. Citristrip used but does not work and leaves a sticky mess.
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Pat4. It's great to have you join us, and many thanks for your question.
You must use the least aggressive product possible to remove the varnish. Anything too aggressive will remove the sealer on the slate as well. If the varnish is not yet dry, then you can check the instructions under clean-up for a suitable product to remove it. I'd imagine whatever you use there is going to be a sticky mess. The varnish will become sticky once it starts breaking down. It might take several applications of Citristrip and a plastic scraper to get the bulk of the varnish off.
