Re: fence door refresh
HI @eloise89
Any gate usually needs 2 posts for support. Eg your gate a 50 x50 wide and 1800 mm post for the hinges.
And a matching but longer 2400mm x 50 x 50 into the ground, 600mm post into the ground and cemented so the latch can be mounted and hold the gate shut.
If your skilled you can reuse your cut out fence panel and make it stronger to use a as a gate and simply add hinges and a latch to it.
Or if you want you can buy a readymade colour bond gate.
Once you know your gate width step 1 you can dig and cement your posts in as step 2.

Re: fence door refresh
Thank you. It does have existing post in the ground on both sides. I should have been more specific. I am trying to refresh this gate/door as it looks a little weathered. What would I require. I have looked at fence paint but prefer brushing than spraying as it's only a small surface.

Re: fence door refresh
Hi @eloise89
options
First you have to decide what you want they all will refresh you gate in different ways
1 Wood Stain . Like a clothes dye You can stain the fence different like colours you can see the wood underneath. Fence paint.is like half stain and a paint And is alot cheaper than full paint.
2 Paint Paint the fence in a solid color you cant see the timber underneath and is more expensive but lasts longer but harder to paint a rough fence.

Re: fence door refresh
Hi @eloise89,
Thank you for your question.
There is no issue with using a paint brush or roller for this job.
Any exterior paint such as Dulux Weathershield, or fence paint such as Walpamur Fence Finish, will be a good option.
You'll want to give the palings a good clean with soapy water and a scrubbing brush before painting. Ideally, you would give them a once-over with some sandpaper, but it is not 100% necessary as long as the timber is well-cleaned.
Let me know if you have any further questions.
