How to raise the height of the fence?

How to raise the height of the fence?

I have an outdoor area with my lounge and a two post pergola.  I have covered the ugly fence with bamboo and it looks amazing.  I would like to extend the height of the fence ( long side) to touching the pergola to keep the rain and sun out.  I would then cover it back with the bamboo screening as I love the finished effect that it creates.  The gap between the existing height of the fence and the bottom of the pergola is 900mm. I would also like to attach an extention of some sort to the shed (short side) to create the same

Problems : There is not much space between the edge of the tiles and the fence so digging a hole to cement is not really possible.

The fence is also jagged palings.

Question: What can you recommend to raise the height of the fence that does not require digging and does not put too much extra weight on the exisitng fence.  I thought about an fence extension but not sure how that works with a jagged fence.  Also thought of the ecodeck castellated panels as this could fix straight onto the fence but I am concerned about the weight on the existing fence.

Re: How to raise the height of the fence?

Hello @petahaynes

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us and thanks for sharing your question about extending the height of your fence.

My apologies for the late reply. After much contemplation, I'm afraid adding an extra 900mm of fencing is just too much. the added height and weight of the fence extension will negatively affect your existing fence. However, there are other methods to cover the gap. First is to use Coolaroo 1.83m Wide Shell Heavy-Duty Sun Protection Shade Cloth 90% UV Block. You have the option of stapling it directly to the timber frame of your pergola or building a lightweight frame to keep it nice and organized. The shade cloths colour is very close to the bamboo reeds you've placed on your fence.

Next option is the Matrix Screen Panel. These panels are UV stabilized can be cut down and framed to cover the gap in your pergola. The third option is the use of SpecRite 1800 x 902mm Pre-Oiled Merbau Alternating Slat Fence Panel. These panels can be cut down and adjusted to suit your needs.

In regards to the short side fencing of your pergola a top hanging frame will need to built in order to hold the fencing or covering of your choice.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Eric
