HI Guys,
Just after some advice to install a fly screen to my bedroom window & bathroom.
The front of my unit has been refurbed with new glazing and fly screens, but the rear of the building has not been refurbed and has the original windows with no fly screens. As you can see from the photographs there is a slot where potential fly screens can go on the outer portion of the window, however the aluminum joints in the corner are sticking out which would make it difficult for me to install.
I did think about maybe making a magnetic screen that sits in place of the window and just install a magnetic strip on the inside of the frame and onto the window edge and then just remove when I want to shut the window, however I am not sure if I would be able to make a frame that thick?
The height of the opening from the top track to bottom track is 1100mm (would make screen smaller to be able to lift out)
I am also in a rental so I need to make this rental friendly. The weather has started to warm up in sydney and I am already getting flies come in!
Hi @ChloeS11,
Thank you for your question and welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.
The outside channel looks to be 10mm thick and the Pillar 22mm x 2.5m White Flyscreen Frame is 9mm, so you should be able to use this alongside some Rolltrak Aluminium Flyscreen Corner Stakes, flyscreen of your choosing and compatible flyscreen spline to create a flyscreen frame.
When you say the aluminium joints in the corner are sticking out, can you advise what you mean? Maybe some photos of them close up would help.
If I could assist you with the corner issue, then this would certainly be the best way of creating a flyscreen for these windows.
You can have a look at How do you make a flyscreen frame? for some guidance on creating the frame and installing the flyscreen.
You can also check out How To Replace Flyscreen Mesh for some further guidance.
Let me know what you think.

Hey Jacob,
So hard to explain, but find attached. I am not sure if this is going to be an issue?
Hi @ChloeS11,
I see what you are saying, but it doesn't look like it should be an issue as long as you have a consistent 10mm gap all the way around that will allow for the frame.
Simply follow the instructions in How do you make a flyscreen frame and you should be able to slot it into place fairly easily.
If you run into any issues, let me know, I'd be happy to assist further if required.
Jacob
