How to install Hills fold-out clothesline and post hole kit?

Hi,  We want to install a Hills fold out clothesline next to our garden workshop, using their post hole kit and have a couple of questions I am having trouble finding answers to:

How far away should we place the posts from the side of the workshop?

Is it better to dig holes and set posts with gravel and quick set cement  or would it be better to place buckets in the ground and set the posts into these, in the event that this will need to be moved in future?

Thank you, I appreciate everyone's help.

Re: Installation Questions Hills Fold Out Clothesline and Post Kit

Hi @Matkai,

When it comes to how far away you should place the posts from the side of the workshop, you can set them as close as you'd like. However, it’s a good idea to leave a little bit of space, around 200mm or so, to make sure you have enough room to create a proper concrete footing around the posts. This also helps avoid potential interference with the shed's foundation.

As for whether it’s better to dig holes and set the posts with gravel and quick-set cement, or to use buckets in the ground for easier removal in the future, pouring concrete directly into the hole is going to provide the most solid and stable support. Setting the posts with gravel and quick-set cement will ensure they are secure and long-lasting. While using buckets may seem like a more convenient option for future removal, it won’t offer the same structural integrity.

Buckets in the ground are likely to move or shift over time, especially in areas with strong winds or heavy use. So for the best long-term stability, digging the post holes and setting them in concrete is the way to go.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Mitchell
