How to fill cracks in timber post?

I have tried to fill these cracks in this timber post with an external putty type filler prior to painting, however as you can see, they have reappeared.

Can you please suggest a product the is more appropriate.D5472BE3-F309-435E-B312-218D017807AE.jpeg

Re: How to fill cracks in timber post

Hello @oli32

I suggest sanding the surface of the post to remove the old filler. Next, I recommend using a safety scraper to remove the filler that has gone into the cracks of the timber. Try to remove as much of it so that it is clean and free of the old filler.

I propose having a look at these fillers:

All three fillers are flexible and rated for exterior use. I suggest using a UNi-PRO 50mm Real Good Paint Scraper to apply the filler. Make sure to push the filler into the timber cracks so that it is not just a surface application.

If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.

Eric
