Hi. I have top-hung awning windows. The external frames are sound, but the sash inserts have rotted-out at the bottom corners. I want to fabricate replacement sashes, re-using the glass panes, to fit the existing external frames. Can I buy machined (routed ?) timber section off-the-shelf, that I can then cut to length as required ? Thx.
Hello @hassall147
Thanks for sharing your question about your timber windows. I'm sorry but timber sashes are individually unique, unless you know the original manufacturer of your window that would be the only way for you to get a compatible set. However, if you happen to have a router or are able to borrow it from friend or relative you should be able to duplicate the sash itself. It might take a few fittings, but you'll eventually find the perfect fit.
If you can post a photo of the damage on the window, we might be able to provide more recommendations on how to repair it.
If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.
