How to deal with the gap between tile and the wall?

Hi,

Recently, I am tiling the front porch. But I find there is mental net surrounding the wall. What is this? and how to deal with them. Can I use gap filler? Or just leave it there. I have done some works. Please reference the picture below.

Thanks for the help.

Re: How to deal with the gap between tile and the wall?

Hi @Danson,

Those are weeper vent holes and allow water that accumulates within the wall cavity to drain out, preventing moisture buildup that could lead to structural damage, mould, and mildew. They also enable air to circulate, aiding in the drying process and helping to maintain the integrity of the building materials.

It's very important that you don't cover them up in any way.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Mitchell

Re: How to deal with the gap between tile and the wall?

Hi MitchellMc,

Thanks for the answer. I am not mean the weeper vent holes. Above pictures may not be a good example. Please see the below picture. I mean the mental net between the concrete floor and the brick wall. How to deal with this when tiling?

Re: How to deal with the gap between tile and the wall?

Are you in a termite-prone area, @Danson? If so, it could be a termite barrier mesh. If it is a termite barrier, I recommend you consult with a termite specialist to determine the best way to tile this area.

It appears that this is the excess product that hasn't been trimmed neatly back flush with the wall. Since you're tiling the area, I'd trim it back neatly with aviation snips so it doesn't inhibit the laying of the tiles.

Re: How to deal with the gap between tile and the wall?

Hi Mitchell,

I agree with you. I just did a search according to your reply. They are termite barrier mesh. I think I will just leave it there and keep the gap. Because this may involve the termite warranty.

Thanks

We have used a matching silicone to the grout.

Another area we have a timber bead but it’s under cover alfresco
