Hey there,
I’m looking to make a small patio 2,5m * 0,6m as a complete concrete beginner.
I know the basic process of how this should be done and I don’t scare away from watching a few hours of tutorials.
My question is, is it possible to create good looking and long lasting results as a beginner?
And also what would to material and renting cost for a cement mixer be?
Help very much appreciated
Cheers
Thore
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @thor. It's sensational to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about creating a concrete patio.
As a beginner, it’s absolutely possible to achieve good-looking and long-lasting results with a concrete patio, especially if you’re willing to put in the effort to plan and learn beforehand. Having a few friends to help with mixing, pouring, and smoothing the concrete will make the job much easier and more enjoyable. Doing it solo can be challenging, especially with the time-sensitive nature of concrete work, so an extra set of hands (or two) is definitely worth considering.
For a detailed guide to walk you through the process, check out the step-by-step article: How to pour a concrete slab. It’s super helpful and will give you a clear understanding of each step.
As for materials and costs, you’ll need concrete mix, formwork materials (timber for the edges), reinforcement mesh (if required), and tools like a screed, float, and edger. For the materials, as a rough approximation you could be looking around the $300 mark. We hire cement mixers on our website.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
