How to attach shade cloth to a shipping container?

I want to create a covered area off the side of a shipping container  for potting plants etc. It needs to be simple but secure, possibly with shade cloth.

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @KerryO. It's wonderful to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about installing shadecloth.

Have you considered a shade sail? That would make connecting to the container and another mounting point relatively easy and secure. You could use shackles and chains to reach your mounting points. Alternatively, you could use shadecloth, but connecting it will require that you either wrap it one full rotation around some timber and screw through the timber or use a V-grip 1.83m Mill Finish Locking Strip. I've created a rendering below to illustrate if you want to use the timber method. Provided it didn't allow water access to the container's interior, you could screw into the framework with self-tapping screws. You'll need to install some posts to create your other mounting points.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Hi Mitchell,

How does the V-grip work?

Hi @KerryO,

The edge of the shadecloth is wrapped around a V-Grip 915mm Keeper Shade Cloth Accessory and then slid into the V-grip 1.83m Mill Finish Locking Strip. You can then screw the locking strip onto a flat surface.
