How to attach fly screen to aluminium chicken coop?

Happy Sunday all!

I would appreciate some advice on how to attach basic insect screening  / fly wire type mesh to the aluminium frame of my chicken coop.

I have considered Velcro or magnetic tape but many reviews have said this is ineffective. As it is just for the chicken coop, I’m not looking for anything that looks good, rather just the most easy and effective way to attach it without the worry of it falling down. Thanks!

Re: Best way to attach insect/fly screen to aluminium chicken coop

Hi @sarahl0u

I would  use  silver / gray plastic duct  tape as it is reasonably weather proof (may need redoing periodically. )  And duct tape wont become a messy mass like some  taps can become.  It should  just peel off again minimal residue.

Cut sections of duct  tape down the  middle approrimatly the same width of the frame  and simply tape the flyscreen to the frame,  Should  last 1 or 2 monthes at a  time

If you want a more permanent solution use  some  finest  stainless steel  wire ( I used  in Beekeeping) or  galvanised wire and tie the flyscreen  with loops.

Just a  quick  meantion of fly screen you can  buy nylon  or the more  expensive regular aluminium mest,  and  then  there is the  more sturdy pet resistant flyscreen  Ie more resistant to cat climbs and  dog paws at the door.  So  consider the  costs vs durability and what you situation needs.

Just to further confuse  you  there is a further 2mm mesh called mouse or snake mesh that is  used to protect chook  pens not super  cheap  but more durable  than all the flyscreen s.

I hope this  helps protect you ladies.

Re: Best way to attach insect/fly screen to aluminium chicken coop

Hi @sarahl0u,

Thank you for your question.

@Jewelleryrescue's solutions would certainly work and are worth considering.

To add another option, you could slip some cable ties through the flyscreen and then through the mesh and then tighten them up.

Let me know what you think.
