How to attach cat net to Colorbond fence?
I have just gotten a kitten and live in a cat containment area. My backyard is quite small so rather than building a cat enclosure I am thinking I will just put a net over the whole backyard. The two sides are so narrow, 900 to 1200 mm I am just going to attach the net to the fascia and to the fence. What is the best way to attach net to a colorbond fence? I need to do this as cost effectively as possible, and am very capable of doing the work myself. I was considering using some shade cloth for some of it to reduce heat and glare coming in to some areas of the house.
The largest span I have for the rest of the yard is 3m. It is my understanding that I will need to run some support wires to stop the net from sagging too much across this distance. How would I attach these to the fence?

Re: How to attach cat net to colorbond fence
Hi @nixybrown,
To help you with attaching the cat net to your Colorbond fence, it would be useful to know what type of netting you intend to use. Typically, self-drilling metal screws are a good choice for attaching to steel fencing. Since you're working on a custom solution, one approach could be to wrap the edge of the netting around a length of 42 x 19mm timber and then screw the timber to the fence. This method can also work for attaching shadecloth to the wall.
Keep in mind that fascia and the fence may not be the most structural mounting points. If the shadecloth experiences wind loads, it could cause some strain on these areas. Additionally, since you have a larger span, you'll need to run support wires across the 3m distance to prevent sagging, and these can be attached with wire eye straps.
Please let me know if you have any questions.

Re: How to attach cat net to colorbond fence
I was just thinking of some black bird netting if I can find it. If not I will look to purchase a roll of cat netting from Cat Nets.

Re: How to attach cat net to colorbond fence
Hello @nixybrown
Have you considered using Backyard Farmer 4 x 10m x 5mm Anti Bird Net. It can be stretched over a wide area and is UV treated.
If you need further assistance, please let us know.
