Re: How do I paint my Besser Block Wall

Hello @Razza1

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us and thanks for sharing your question about painting your Besser block wall.

Looking at the photos you posted it appears that you have heavy moisture coming out of your Besser block wall. If this so, it means that any paint you place over the wall will peel off because of hydrostatic pressure. The moisture ingress must be addressed first in order for you to paint the wall properly. The general repair steps will be to gain access to the other side of the wall and clean it off with a pressure washer. Once the wall is clean and has dried off a waterproofing membrane such as Gripset Betta 1L Waterproofing Membrane Bitumen Rubber needs to be applied.

Give the wall several days to dry off just to make sure that there are no other points of entry for water to get in. This would also be a good time to address the water coming in under the Besser block wall. Once all the leaks have been addressed the wall can then be painted with an exterior paint such as Dulux Weathersheild or Taubmans Sunproof.

Let me call on our experienced members @Dave-1 and @Nailbag for their recommendations.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Hi @Razza1

I can't say I can add anything further to the great advice already provided by @EricL . The No 1 priority at this point is to get the waterproofing sorted first, before any cosmetic changes.

Re: How do I paint my Besser Block Wall

Evening @Razza1

I was wondering how the water was making the blocks look like long term dampness. The photos show water in a pond? and also another section that looks like a long rectanglular water area? Does the water wick up the bessa blocks?

I agree with @EricL about getting the water issue sorted first and then coming back to it afterwards. I have stripped the paint back ion my bessa block wall which is next to my pool but there is no dampness on my blocks so I am not worried about any moisture traveling through the blocks to make the paint fail. I used the same paint that I used on my front patio Patio renovation using paving paint This has stood up well next to the pool.

Thanks, for the advice. It was supposed to be a pool area but never eventuated. We are now slowly cutting it all out..It does hold water so, I'll sort that out first.

Thanks everyone for your time.
