Do I need to coat all sides of a Merbau bench?

Do I need to coat all sides of a Merbau bench?

Do I need to pain all sides of a merbau bench? I purchased two benches in plastic wrap, put a stain on let dry, followed by a coat of chalk paint, let dry and then a matt clear furniture paint. I left the underside of the bench untouched. It will have 4 legs attached to the underside. Is there a chance it will warp?

Hello @Galliano18

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us and thanks for sharing your question about your merbau bench.

If it was in a plastic wrap, it's highly probable that it was being protected from moisture. Once the wrap is off the bench must be painted on all sides (including the bottom), this is to prevent moisture from being absorbed by the timber. I highly recommend painting the bottom so that there will be entry point for moisture to get in.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Eric
