How to re-coat a wooden deck?

Hi,

The wooden deck in the photos has a roof over it, but is open to the elements on one side.

The current state of the deck material is good, and I wish to keep it that way.

From the photo you can see that the grain in the wood is still visible, so I'm guessing that it is not a paint that has been used on it but some other sort of sealant.

With that Information, what sort of sealant/paint/oil/stain should

I use on it to maintain its integrity? Is the best way to apply the coating with one of those flat lambswool applicators (like a roller, but flat)?

Thx

Re: Coating a wooden deck

Hi @Oopsee,

Thank you for your question about maintaining your deck.

Your deck appears to have a standard decking oil, such as this Cabot's Merbau Aquadeck Exterior Decking Oil.

When the time comes to recoat your deck, as you aren't certain what coating was used in the past, I'd suggest using Cabot's New Timber Prep to remove the old coating, Cabot's Deck Clean to prepare the surface and then apply your oil with a Cabot's Decking Oil Applicator.

You might like to check out How To Oil Your Deck for some further guidance on the process.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Jacob

Thx very much Jacob.

I appreciate the step by step instructions you gave. The video link was also quite helpful!
