Hello @janandella
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about painting polypropylene chairs.
Before you resort to painting is there no other cleaning alternative open to your chairs? I only ask as painting polypropylene is very difficult and quite often the paint fails due to the surface finish of the plastic. I suggest having a quick look at this discussion - How to paint outdoor plastic furniture? by @DIYMum. It has been two years since these plastic chairs were painted and it would be interesting to find out how they are faring.
If you still wish to paint the chairs, I propose following these general steps. I suggest giving the plastic seat a thorough washdown with dishwashing liquid in combination with a Scotch pad. The scotch pad will scratch up the surface of the chair giving the primer a better chance at anchoring onto the surface. This will also remove any oil or grease deposits on the surface.
In the discussion, I suggested using the Dulux 325g Duramax Plastic Primer Spray Paint. Or the Rust-Oleum 340g 2X Ultra Cover Paint+Prime Satin Blossom White Spray Paint. It has the primer mixed in so you can use this spray paint directly onto the plastic. Please remember to test a small portion of the plastic chair before you commit to painting the whole lot.
In regards to the RUST-OLEUM Specialty Plastic Primer, I'm afraid it is not available in Australia.
My best suggestion is to leave the chair in full sunlight to get maximum strength from the primer and paint.
Please remember to wear personal protection such as gloves, goggles and a paint mask when working on your project.
