Can I use BGC Fibre Cement for a gate?
Hi
I would like to create some hidden storage space for out door garden items by adding a gate to a verandah post. Can I use BGC Duragroove Smooth Narrow Fibre Cement Sheet 2450 x 1200 x 9mm hung with hinges so it will open and close? Does it need support such as bracing or is the sheet strong enough to hold it's own weight?

Re: Can I use BGC Fibre Cement for a gate?
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @build_a_gate. It's brilliant to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about cement sheeting.
The product isn't designed to be self-supported or be fixed purely by hinges at a few points. Your idea could work; it just doesn't conform to the installation guidelines and I have concerns as to whether the hinge fixing points will deteriorate. I'd recommend that you create a gate frame from timber and mount the sheeting onto it instead of using the sheeting as the gate.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Mitchell
