Just wondering if anyone has used 15mm thick Merbau boards for decking before?
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Frogger. It's brilliant to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about decking boards.
Using 15mm thick boards for decking is not a recommended choice for several reasons. Thinner boards lack durability, making them more susceptible to warping, cracking, and breaking over time. They also don't offer the same structural support, which can lead to issues with flexing and sagging under the weight of people and furniture, potentially compromising the safety and longevity of the deck. Thin boards might not provide the same visual appeal as thicker ones and can appear flimsy. Installation can be more challenging due to their thin size, such as the ends splitting when installing screws. They may also require more maintenance, like increased oiling, and be less cost-effective in the long run. Thicker boards are generally preferred for their durability, structural integrity, and overall performance in deck construction.
