One of the rails on my balcony has rust appearing.
What products and method do I need to fix this please
I already have the paint but that goes on last
thankyou
Hi @filthy,
To fix the rust on your balcony rail, you'll need to start by removing the rust before applying any paint. First, use a wire wheel on a drill or sandpaper to remove as much of the rust as possible, making sure to get down to clean metal. After removing the rust, if there is any spot rust left, apply a rust converter to the affected areas to neutralise any remaining rust and prevent it from spreading.
Once that’s done, apply a metal primer. This will create a solid base for your final coat of paint, ensuring long-term protection and a smooth finish.
Please let me know if you have any questions.

if after removing the rust there is a hole, what product can I use to fill ?
Hi @filthy,
You can use a metal repair putty such as PC Products 57g PC Metal Epoxy Putty to fill the hole.
Ensure you follow the manufacturer's instructions for mixing and wear gloves when applying the product to prevent any skin irritation.
Let me know if you have any further questions.
