Its that time of year when we all start to want to hang out on our decking only to frown at the state it is in... Well yeah I did So I have rolled through most of my timber projects (still yet to re-oil two of them) but the majority have been done, so far 3 and a half 4L tins of oil I have gone through... worth it
Cabbots Merbau 4L decking oil so far 3 of.
75mm paint brush
Time to start rolling through the annual re-oiling of the timber about the place, I figure if I put the effort in to build it I might as well make sure it lasts as long as it can
I decided to do all the timber with the merbau tinting. Made life easier as well as the timbers have aged so the natural colour will be towards the grey
To show the colouring of the oil. Always carray a rag with you. It will be needed

My patio posts, yeah did these even tho I still havnt finished my handrails. if its timber, it got oiled!
Must say they look much nicer with a bit of care.
Wind break before (8 years old)
Almost got all the outward facing sides done before I ran out of oil... 3 rungs left
Done
What a difference Really felt like I had just installed it freshly.
Makes the front look loved again.
Today is the fort day! I call it a pivacy screen, the guys at work call it a fort...
Always take a photo for next time you need to remember it.
Yes it is a fort lookalike...
The timber has faded a little and needs some caring.
You can see how easily the timber soaks the oil up. This was built a year ago.
The wall, looking down. It has stood the Westerly wind well.
I forgot I had handrails on it, they were still going great!
Very happy with the colour change.
Argghh can you spot it.... I forgot something...
the "can opener" .. I knocked it down with a long stick
All done!
Time to do the front.
My arms were starting to feel it for sure and all I could smell was oil.
Privacy screen done!
Tomorrows job maybe....
The inside of the windbreak, done!
The posts are treated pine and will need replacing soon (next two years) The end posts wobble a bit.
Looks loads better. (rocks are for Gabion cages yet to be built)
Rear wall of the privacy screen for the deck
Just a better view
Done! Only one small spot of rot on one board. Poured oil into it but needs to be looked at. Might use Earls wood repair and see how it goes. Probarly shouldnt have oiled that bt then

Ran out of oil again... I made sure I was following straight lines as I knew I didnt have enough to finish it.
Couldnt believe how nicely it was coming back. This was rejuvinated a year ago, almost to the day.
Could tell how slow the oil was soaking in as to the state of the timber The timber is still going strong!
Definently worth the effort to maintain.
Time to do the outside table, underside done!
Better view
Underside of the bench seat done, tabletop yet to be done
Before
Afterwards Feeling pretty tired but good tired!
Have two things left to re-oil but will be using a clear decking oil as they are lighter in colour. One thing I didnt expect when I started the maintenance cycle was how it feels after each thing was re-oiled. It feels brand new! As if I had just done it again
