We're starting to get rust on our external security door. Could we get the door re-sprayed, or even do it ourselves? Would we have to strip it back first?
Welcome to Workshop @Tracey79.
Would you be able to take a photo of the door so community members would be able to see what you are working with?
Thanks,
Jason
Here's some photos.
Hi Tracey,
It looks like moisture has gotten in under the powder coating, so it would have to be removed. The easiest and probably long term solution would be to get the door sand blasted and re-powder coated.
If you want to do it yourself, then remove the door. Remove the mesh. Using a grinder and flap disc, remove all material off the frame. Use a rust converter to stop the rust process. Prime and paint the frame with a good external spray paint. Reinstall the mesh and re-hang the door.
Personally, I would go with the sand blasting option.
Cheers
Daryl
Thanks for the replies. We're not in a coastal area and the door is not near a pool or spa. However, it does get a bit of rain on it when the wind is blowing in certain directions.
Hoping to keep it because the design matches the front door. It sounds like its not a DIY job. I will have a look at companies that could re powder coat it. Thanks again.
