Anyone built their own mailbox? I'm thinking it would be a fun project. I Googled for some inspiration and there was some strange, amusing and creative examples.
This is the best mailbox I've seen - Ned Kelly
My dad quite a few years back made his own letterbox. He came across a Victorian Railways Railway Track Changer (Staff Machine).
He painted the entire machine black with polished brass detailing and attached the two sides for the mail and newspapers. He then carved the bluestone base from a square piece of bluestone and used a sand blaster to engrave the number.
It is a bit worn now, but still attracts a lot of attention and is always a conversation starter!
Wow, that looks fantastic @kaylah_rose, thanks for sharing. Looking forward to seeing your Dad on Workshop soon! He must have a lot of expertise to share.

Good luck with the project @MartyH.
Hope you find the video below useful, and that it inspires others to give a D.I.Y. letterbox a try.

Believe it or not you catch quite a few of the DIY microwave mailboxes up in the country!
These made me laugh.
Love this retro letterbox from a mid-century Californian house.
I found more Ned Kelly mailboxes...
