How to build an indoor cat run?

Hi I want to build an indoor cat run along my wall, I’m thinking of using specrite timber panels and either carinya angle brackets or raw pine stayed bracket. I would need to get Bunnings to cut the timber panels unless there is another item I can use where I can just use a saw? my closest store is Batemans Bay
I will try and borrow a stud finder even though I’ve used one before and I had trouble picking up the studs? what type of screw should I use for installing the brackets, I have three cats and the heaviest would be 6 kg. I will also most probably put some sort of carpet or fabric on top of the shelves. Thank you for your help. Really appreciate it

Re: indoor cat run

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @kelbie. It's wonderful to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about making a cat run.

Depending on the sizes you need, you might be better off using DAR pine lengths at the correct width than the Specrite panels. You can then simply cut them to your desired length with a hand saw.

Here's a helpful step-by-step guide: How to use a stud finder.

Provided you can find studs, then you can attach your brackets with standard timber screws. Even with all three cats (let's just say that's 18 kgs), the 65mm long screws I've mentioned and the raw pine-stayed brackets would be fine. Each bracket has a weight rating of 20 kg, so with at least two per shelf, they'll be more than adequate.

We sell a range of carpet that you could use and I'd recommend sticking it to the shelves with contact adhesive.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
