Hello,
Seeking ideas / inspiration regarding this wood panel wall in our new home. Was going to paint it natural white (as per the rest of the home) but I've heard lately about how "on trend" the wood panel wall is. Any suggestions to update it a bit? We are pretty clueless.
For reference we have arranged to have the carpets pulled and there will be cypress wood pine floorboards that we'll have refurbished. (Not sure on what finish yet!?).
Sorry the pictures aren't great. The wooden wall is the one the TV will be against.
Any insights ideas or inspiration greatly appreciated!
I would paint it white like you said it will still have the timber look and feel but lighter in appearance not the dark will look best but this comes down to your personal preferences don't let trends sway you as they change with the weather and can date your house eg Things like stack stone immediately dates a house in my opinion.
Later if you wish you can simply take off the skirting board and gyprock over the wall or any other cladding as the wall is already flat. You will only loose 10mm of room space, then re skirt the wall.
Others will want to strip all that timber off and that can damage the evenness of the wall studs and you will be faced with a much bigger task at a greater expense. For no real gains and take a whole lot longer. But you are the boss here you decide either way is valid.
Hi @mccarthyelaine7,
A warm welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community and thank you for your question.
I'm in the same boat as @Jewelleryrescue that I think you should paint it, especially considering there will be wooden floorboards. Painted wood panelling will still add depth and texture to the room without being too bold. I love natural timber looks, but I think it will be too much with both the flooring and the wood panelling.
Ultimately, it is a matter of opinion, so allow me to tag @prettyliving, @twocutekelpies, @Nailbag and @diy_hausdesigns for their thoughts.
Let me know what you think.

Thank you I really appreciate your insights.
Wonderful thank you so much - I think you're right about the double wood now that I think it through! Really appreciate it.
I'm also in the same camp in painting the timber wall, so there is not a large timber feature against the Cyprus floorboards. Personally I wouldn't be in a hurry to paint the wall until the carpet was lifted and the floors polished. The textures in the floor will be awesome and through a plain contrasting colour would be the way to go, the actual choice doesn't need to be rushed.
