hi all, i want to put castors on a blanket box. It will need to carry at most 300kg load and will be used on vinyl plank flooring. Which of your castors would you suggest.
Hello @Michelle64
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about castors.
A quick way to calculate the weight rating a caster should have is to determine the total weight it will carry, including the weight of the container itself, and then divide this total by 4. For example, if the total load is 300 kg and the timber box weighs 40 kg, the total weight is 340 kg. Please make sure to double-check the weight of your box.
For safety reasons, its best to add at least a 25 to 30 percent margin, so getting a castor with a weight rating of 100kg++ is quite safe.
When we divide 340kg by 4, we get 85kg, therefore the castor that you need to get has to have a weight rating of at least 90kg. A good example would be the Easyroll 100mm 100kg Grey Rubber Heavy Duty Swivel Brake Castor. It's best to get 4 locking units in total.
My best advice is to always check the weight rating of the castor and make sure it's a rubber wheel so that your flooring won't get damaged.

Hi Eric,
Thanks for that. I decided that i will not allow anyone to sit on it, which brought the weight limits down to an estimated max of 120kg. I have gone with the Easyroll 50mm 40kg Load Transparent Swivel Plate And Brake Castor. I decided to try these and swap out if needed later. Smooth as, and very light touch to move it even with a load in it. Doesn't seem to mark the floor at all so I'm hopeful. Will post again, and look at replacing with the 100kg rubber ones you mention, if i find these don't work.
