Hi All,
We are in the process of installing a new french door in our study and looking for a product to varnish the door, it’s a maple veneer door and we want to end up with a look that still shows the timber grains, and if possible try and match the stain as close as possible to the spotted gum floors we’ve got.
And secondly we’ve got a barrel bolt that needs a hole to be drilled in the timber floor to hold the bolt, are there any products available that sink into the hole and have a metal plate on top to protect the timber hole ?
All advice will be appreciated!
Many Thanks !
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Khan_Saab. It's wonderful to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about staining timber.
Your Spotted Gum floors have several different colours going on there. That's one of the traits of the timber. When the timber comes in various hues and colours, it's impossible to match it exactly. However, you could select a stain and varnish colour that compliments it. By using the Cabot's colour visualiser, you can see what options are available. Their stain and varnish products can be tinted to hundreds of different colours, and I'm sure there is something that would look great alongside your floors. Even a clear varnish would darken the maple and bring it closer to the colour needed.
You might also like to have a look at the samples provided in-store. Often we'll have them displayed on real timber so you can get an idea of how they look instead of on a computer screen. If you can identify one of the several colours in your picture, I can look for a colour that could replicate that for you.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
