If there is water damage to the back of this cabinet, which has created bubbles, will there be any consequence if I just leave it? Or should I replace the back?
That's a bit hard to tell without knowing how much the water has penetrated the cabinet @achandra100. It's more an aesthetical issue and whether the damage has ruined the look of the cabinet. If you can't see that same swelling on the cabinet's interior, the backing might not need replacing. Once the area with the water damage dries out, the MDF backing will likely become powdery and could even disintegrate. Only time will really tell whether you need to replace it, but as of now, it appears fine to leave it as is.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
