Mirror frame transformed into jewellery display wall hanging

A treasured mirror in a beautiful frame broke. The mirror now surrounds a delightful and useful jewellery wall mounted display, with purpose-built storage for earrings, brooches and necklaces.

Materials

Bunnings paint (Taubmans); Bunnings timber products; Bunnings screws, hangers and drill bits.

Tools

Japanese woodsaw, drill, work bench, clamps.

Steps

Step 1

Cleaned, sanded, filled minor holes in frame.

Polished the frame with beeswax.

Deepened the frame with infill slim timber framing.

Painted the double frame black.

Created backing board sealed and painted it black at rear and deep red at front.

Handsawed all dividers, sealed and painted deep red.

Glued and screwed the major dividers.

Glued the minor dividers.

Final round of painting.

Attached painting hangers to rear.

This is a brilliant way of giving a treasured old mirror some new use and keeping it out of landfill. 

 

I love the way the deep red compliments the warm colour of the timber.
