Kids 'teepee' clothes rack

Kids 'teepee' clothes rack

After being handed my To Do list by Leah before the WA Day long weekend, I wasn't as thrilled as I normally am because it was filled with more chore-like tasks than fun stuff, such as;

  • Replace both toilet seats
  • Change light switches
  • Patch up walls

It turns out deciding on a new toilet seat is a bigger deal than you might think and I actually felt better than I thought I would after replacing them. Although that just comes down to the excitement from my girls when they saw the 'magic' one I installed in their toilet #smallthings haha

Anyway back to the purpose of this post. Thankfully I did get to whip up this simple but effective little clothes rack for some of my girls' 'fancy'/'showoff' clothes.

Just comment or PM for the (simple) instructions  Hope you like it!

PS @Kermit this is the first thing I made using my new workbench.

Re: Kids 'teepee' clothes rack

Great work @ProjectPete.

Reminds me of the dress up rack that @Mick0s shared a couple of weeks ago.

Thanks for sharing.

Re: Kids 'teepee' clothes rack

Rats! I've been outdone again!
And I installed a family toilet seat a few weeks ago too!

You're not planning on making any tyre swans in the future... are you? *shifty eyes*

Re: Kids 'teepee' clothes rack

Sorry I missed those two posts! But how great is the reaction from the kid/s @Mick0s!?!

No tyres in upcoming plans mate so we're safe there haha

Yep, Violet loves hers, now if we could somehow get her to put the clothes back on the rack...

Re: Kids 'teepee' clothes rack

Thanks for your interest @Natalie. The following should get your sorted.

Materials/tools

  • 4x dressed pine for frame. Something like 42x19mm works well. I used 1.2m lengths from memory but use whatever works for you.
  • 1x 25mm dowel to whatever length you need.
  • Undercoat (optional)
  • Paint (optional)
  • Wood glue or Rope to maintain structure (see below)
  • Drop saw
  • Drill
  • 25mm spade drill bit
  • Pencil
  • Clamps
  • Painters tape (optional)
  • Paint brush (optional)

Steps

  • Trim the ends of your 4x dressed pine @ 15 degree angle using drop saw.
  • Stand 2 pieces of dresed pine, crossing them at top to create teepee shape. Mark where the pieces overlap.
  • Find centre of overlapped space and mark. Drill through with spade bit. Repeat for all 4 dressed pine.
  • (Optional) Paint your timber pieces. We only painted a small section of the pine for desired effect using painters tape to mask off. Your call on what you do.
  • Let paint dry then reate 2x teepee and push dowel through the holes you drilled.

To maintain structure you can either wood glue the dowel into the teepee crossover (which we did) or you coud drill a hole in the bottom of each dressed pine and run a rope through on each side, or simply use more dressed pine as a cross section.

Enjoy and please share pics of the work you do!

Re: Kids 'teepee' clothes rack

Dressed pine, not treated pine, for the first point under materials.
