How to treat rust on upright fan?

The cage of the fan has lots of rust coming through the white paint/plastic on metal. If it were a cheaper fan, I'd buy a new one, but this one is barely 18 months old and has a few handy features. So, can I paint the cage with a white primer paint to make it look good again?

Re: Rust on upright fan

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Patches. It's wonderful to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about painting a fan.

Painting the cage of your fan is a great way to refresh its look and prevent further rust. I’d recommend removing the cage before painting to avoid getting paint on the blades or motor. If there are any severe rust spots, it’s best to sand them back to bare metal before applying paint to ensure a smooth and long-lasting finish. A paint designed for rust protection, such as White Knight 310g White Gloss Rust Guard Epoxy Enamel, would provide a durable and professional-looking result.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
