How to stain timber chair legs and recolour leather?

hi I’ve recently remodeled my dining chairs to make the backs shorter.

I haven’t stretched/ re-attached the leather yet as l  need to finish off the legs.  I sanded them back  and would like to know which product is best to use to stain / finish off the timber.

I’ve also heard it’s possible to recolour leather and a contemplating trying this if anyone has any advice regarding products/methods would be appreciated. Thanks ☺️

Re: leather / chair leg staining

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Catchiqui. It's marvellous to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about staining chair legs.

It looks like you're doing a great job revamping your dining chairs To make sure I give you the most relevant advice, I just wanted to clarify—are you looking to stain the legs or are you after a clear coat to finish them off? If you’re looking for a clear finish, I’d recommend Cabot's Cabothane in either satin or gloss. It’s a durable, clear polyurethane that will protect the wood and give it a smooth finish.

However, if you’re aiming to stain the timber, there are several stain and varnish combinations available, so you can select a colour that complements your existing décor. Cabot's range offers a variety of wood stains and finishes, including both water-based and oil-based options, that will give you different looks depending on the depth of colour and finish you’re after. All of our stain and varnish products will work with your project, it's more about selecting a product that is able to be mixed into your desired colour. Our helpful team in-store can assist with colour selection.

Unfortunately, I’m not aware of any leather staining products in our range that can recolour the leather.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Mitchell
