Hi There
I have found a dresser with the right dimensions and price for my budget. However, the wood stain is too light for what I'm after. I like the darker walnut look of another dresser, but unfortunately, it's out of my budget.
The Cheaper dresser is made out of MDF & particleboard. Can I stain the dresser to resemble the more expensive one? Would i need to sand it back and apply a gel coating?
Thanks so much!
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @EHLW. It's terrific to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about stain a dresser.
Typically, MDF or particle board would be the underlying material that is then covered with some type of veneered coating like laminate to create a timber effect. Many of these coatings are impervious to stains, so they won't penetrate the surface.
You might like to speak with the manufacturer of the units to see whether they would accept a stain to achieve your desired look. If it is a dresser you're planning to purchase through us, I can put you in touch with them.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
