Hi, I'm having trouble trying to replace my door handle. My new one is a little bigger than my old one. I've never done this before id appreciate easy beginners steps please.
Hi @SUMPODY,
Thank you for your question and welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.
Can you advise what specific door handle you are looking to install?
Some photos of the holes in your door as well as the dimensions of the existing holes will also help. Let me know if you need a hand uploading images, I'm happy to assist if required.
Check out How To Install a Door Handle for some general advice on the process.
I imagine the issue is because of the large central hole that the spindle goes through.
Increasing the diameter of this hole can be a bit tricky because the two tools that are usually used to do this, a spade bit or a hole saw, require material in the centre to get the hole started and guide the outer diameter of the bit.
This can be mitigated by clamping a piece of plywood such as this 897 x 600mm 7mm Plywood to the door, marking out your holes as you would normally and drilling through the plywood and then halfway through the door before doing the same on the opposite side of the door.
Let me know if this answers your question or not and if you require further details please don't hesitate to ask.
